Big News From Friendly Chevrolet: Dealership Recieves Reinstatement Letter From General Motors

FRIENDLY GETS REINSTATED!
You may or may not be aware that on June 1, 2009 General Motors advised several thousand of it’s dealers that they were initiating a “Wind Down” agreement with them. In simple terms this agreement revised GM’s “franchise” agreement with the involved dealers in order to reduce the number of General Motors dealerships, under the direction of the White House. The affected dealerships had until October of 2010 to wind down and terminate their business relationship with General Motors. The bad news was that Friendly Chevrolet was one of the affected dealerships.

Now for the good news. On May 21st, Friendly Chevrolet received a “Letter of Intent” from General Motors that spelled out a number of conditions under which we could be reinstated. Included in those conditions were the requirement of operating in a facility that met the GM requirements and maintaining a State of Washington dealers license, among other various items. I am happy to report that we have met the conditions of the Letter of Intent and have been reinstated as a continuing General Motors dealership.

What does this mean to you? It means that GM will once again be supplying new Chevrolet cars and trucks to our dealership, which will let the blood to flow through our veins everywhere within the dealership. More importantly it means that you are guaranteed to have a Chevrolet dealership in Puyallup to serve your needs in the years to come.

Stay tuned – There are a few more changes coming that are intended to guaranty that we can continue to provide the level of service that the friends and customers of our dealership deserve.

Sincerely,

Rick Andersen
President and General Manager

Desperate to Improve your MPG Rating? Help is on the way from Friendly Chevrolet of Puyallup!

GM has heard the cries for increased fuel economy, and the Chevrolet Customers are set to reap the benefits in the months to come. The All-New Chevy Cruze is slated to hit showrooms in fall of 2010. The Cruze is a 4 door 5 Passenger sedan. The Cruze is expected to provide up to 40 MPG Highway. The model has already drawn heavy praise for its Eye-catching styling, spacious and refined interior, and bang-for-the-buck value. Thanks to early release in foreign markets such as China and Mexico, the Cruze has already received numerous awards from multiple auto industry publications. The strongest supporter may even be President Obama who in 2009 Declared the Cruze "Car of the Future."

Is 40 MPG not quite enough for you? Well how does 200 Miles Per Gallon sound? Make that 230 to be exact. That is the number that has been preliminarily assigned to the much anticipated Chevy Volt. The unique characteristics of the Volt make calculating its true MPG very difficult for industry execs, and in fact the 230 may even be too low. The Volt will be the first plug in electric vehicle capable of completing a normal daily commute using absolutely no gasoline. A gas engine is on-board to re-charge the electric motor to extend range to that of any normal vehicle. Otherwise commutes commutes under 40 miles can be completed gasoline and guilt free.

Keep checking back at FriendlyChevrolet.com as we eagerly await the arrival of these great new products.

New Slogan Signals Priorities: Commitment to Affordable Quality for Chevrolet Brand

This week, top Chevrolet Executives have announced Chevy has a new tag line. "Excellence for All" will replace the previous "American Revolution" tag line. Signaling that the company has turned a corner and that the revitalization of Chevy is now full steam ahead, the revolution campaign seems to have run its course. Its understandable that the new slogan builds off the momentum of "May the Best Car Win." Clearly, Chevy is touting its ability to produce vehicles meeting and exceeding the quality of its competitors and retailing them at price points available to a wide segment of the population. This new slogan is scheduled to appear in Chevrolet ads beginning this summer.

The real question here is how will this tag line stand up to classic favorites that have stayed with the brand for decades and embedded themselves into American culture. See the USA in your Chevrolet, The Heartbeat of America, Like a Rock: These slogans have transcended their respective era's and have come to define the brand as a whole. How will "Excellence for All" stack up? Only time will tell.

GM Pays Off Government Loan 5 Years Ahead of Schedule

This past week, my morning cup of coffee was greeted with a rather curious surprise. While settling down down to read over the morning paper, I spotted a full page color ad from General Motors in my daily issue of the Tacoma News Tribune. As a Marketing Director, full page newspaper ads are usually a very bad sign. Spending like this from a parent company is often used to address a very serious problem, such as "Sorry our cars speed out of control and cause multiple fatal crashes, but we've REALLY fixed the problem this time so you can trust us now." Thankfully, another car manufacturer had already taken that headline, so I decided to read what the good 'ol general had to say that was so important to interupt my breakfast. A big bold head line read as such: "We're proud to announce: We've repaid our government loan. In full. With interest. Five years ahead of the original schedule."

I will admit I was a bit taken aback. As much as I would like to believe GM communicates with me and me only through my local newspaper in full page color ads, the most likely scenario is that GM printed this ad in most every newspaper coast-to-coast. Given my employment position, I would rather GM use this spending to inform consumers that the Chevy Malibu gets better Fuel Economy than Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Ford Fusion or that the Chevy Silverado is a Consumer's Digest Best Buy. However, I understand where the decision makers are headed here. With the Government cash loan paid off, GM can invest freely in itself with a clean conscience. No one was happy that GM needed a lifeline to stay alive, but the company is back on its feet, returning to profitability, and working everyday to once again build the world's greatest cars. And if meeting that goal comes with a side dish of good news at the breakfast table, that's okay by me.

Happy Motoring,

Brett Jacobsen
